Now more than ever the people of our world are in crisis. Illness, anxiety and stress take the place of joy, peace and health. Burnout is at an all-time high and self-care is still a novel and taboo idea in most people’s lives. The best form of proactive healthcare we can engage in is our own self-care, but what does that even mean? Does it mean I have to spend tons of time and money I don’t have to be healthy? Does it mean putting even more things on my mile-long list of things to do? Isn’t self-care just a fancy word for getting a massage, doing yoga or abiding by a strict diet of what to eat and what not to eat?
No, not necessarily. The word self-care is like an umbrella – there are so many different ways to practice it. Practicing self-care is like saying you listen to music. Just like there’s an endless variety of music, there’s an endless variety of self-care methods – most which are free or low-cost and only require a little time and effort. They all have the same core essence though – helping you disconnect from the noise that is our outside world and reconnect to yourself. To your inner wisdom.
